Susan Crawford, a Partner in the firm, is dedicated to pursuing the best possible results for clients in a practical and cost-effective manner. With a practice that crosses several disciplines, Susan handles civil and commercial cases in state and federal courts at the trial and appellate levels and in regulatory, administrative, and arbitration proceedings. She represents a diverse array of clients, including individuals, businesses, nonprofit associations, public employee unions, and local governments and officials.

Susan has litigated numerous cases involving significant constitutional issues and other matters of public interest in areas such as voting rights, reproductive rights, collective bargaining rights, open government, utility rate-setting, and renewable energy policy, among others. Susan has a particular interest in energy policy and has represented ratepayer organizations and renewable energy clients in administrative proceedings before the Wisconsin Public Service Commission. She has also advised and assisted renewable energy clients with project development, regulatory approvals, and permitting. Susan also has authored amicus briefs in important voting and election law cases, including an amicus brief in the U.S. Supreme Court in Gill v. Whitford, in support of the plaintiff’s constitutional challenge to Wisconsin’s legislative districting maps based on partisan gerrymandering.

Prior to joining Pines Bach in 2011, Susan held high-ranking positions in Wisconsin state government, including serving as Chief Legal Counsel to Governor Jim Doyle and in executive-level appointments at the Departments of Natural Resources, Corrections, and Employment Relations. Earlier in her career, Susan was an assistant attorney general at the Wisconsin Department of Justice, handling hundreds of felony criminal appeals and prosecuting Medicaid provider fraud and patient abuse, and serving as the director of the criminal appeals unit.
