“Maintenance” is a legal term in Wisconsin, sometimes referred to as “spousal support” or “alimony.” If awarded to a party, it may be set for a limited or an indefinite period of time, and may change based on substantial changes in the financial circumstances of either party.

How Spousal Support Is Decided

Also considered are the contributions by one party to the other’s education, training or increased earning power as well as such other factors in an individual case that may be relevant. In short, the resolution of maintenance in a particular case is very wide-ranging, and a court has broad discretion when deciding this issue.
