Biography

Kat D. Grant joins Pines Bach as an Associate Attorney with the firm. Prior to joining Pines Bach, Kat worked as an Equal Justice Works Fellow at the Freedom From Religion Foundation focusing on legal and policy advocacy for LGBTQIA+ rights and their intersection with the religion clauses of the First Amendment.

Kat’s practice areas include labor and employment law, employment discrimination, union representation, and constitutional law. In addition to litigation, Kat has extensive experience providing legal policy support for nonprofits in front of local, state, and federal government bodies.

Born and raised in southwest Indiana, Kat attended Indiana University Bloomington for both undergrad and law school. While at the IU Maurer School of Law they served as a student director of the LGBTQ+ Project, providing pro bono legal services to LGBTQ+ Hoosiers, including name and gender marker changes, litigation support for teachers at religious schools, and legislative policy advocacy at the state level. Kat was also chair person of the Disability Justice Committee of the IU Maurer Chapter of the National Lawyers Guild, and served on the law school’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion advisory committee.

Outside of law, Kat is an avid supporter of and participant in community performing arts. They are a board member of Madison Contemporary Dance, where they help facilitate professional dance training for low income youth throughout the Madison area. They are also a dancer themselves, performing in multiple genres and as a member of the Wingspan Modern Dance Company in Madison, WI.
