Last week, the State Bar of Wisconsin hosted its annual Health, Labor & Employment Law Institute, a legal education conference geared to presenting the latest developments and best practices to labor & employment practitioners and health law practitioners from throughout the state. Three Pines Bach LLP attorneys made presentations.

Attorneys and Diane Welsh presented on the topic of “Wisconsin Medicaid Provider Audits, Payment Suspensions, and Recoupments.” Their presentation addressed helpful strategies for representing health care providers on navigating the audit process, how to challenge a state recoupment effort, and how to respond to collateral actions, such as a referral to the Department of Justice and payment suspension.

Employee rights attorney Tamara Packard co-presented a session titled “Anatomy of a Noncompete Agreement.” She and her co-presenter, who spoke from the employer point of view, noted that worker mobility is important to both employees and prospective employers. They discussed the strict limitations placed on restrictive covenants by Wisconsin law, the historical and policy reasons behind such limitations, and strategies for writing and responding to restrictive covenants.
